Our Story
Beginning in 1888 as a mission Sunday School, Bethany Presbyterian Church served the many families living near 501 SE Oak Street in Minneapolis. Through the years, the neighborhood around the church changed dramatically. The University of Minnesota continued to expand, and the freeway took away much of the neighborhood. The church had years of growth and revival and times of struggle and turmoil. However, it continued to teach the Bible and proclaim the Good News. In 2000 the church changed its name to Stadium Village Church as it served the University of Minnesota community. The church became a growing, vibrant fellowship that faithfully proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ.
World Missions has been an area of focus for River of Hope throughout the years. Many missionaries were sent out who served around the world. As international students came to the University, the church served them by providing community and sharing the Good News. Prayer has continually been emphasized at River of Hope. Recently, a Prayer Room was opened with the goal of having 24-7 prayer and worship. God has answered prayers in amazing ways as the church continues to proclaim the Good News to the University and beyond.
In 2022 the University purchased our property and we moved to 3300 University Ave. We are now in the Prospect Park neighborhood! We look forward to serving this diverse community of Minneapolis and the University. Our new building has improved and larger facilities approximately 3x in size!! We decided to change our church name to River of Hope to convey our mission of bringing hope to the campus, city, and the nations. Our prayer is that God will work through us to serve the University, the surrounding neighborhood, and the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
GOD IS GOOD and His faithful love endures forever!
